12 Weeks Old!

Ruby is 12 weeks old today!  Boy did that time fly!  She's now getting to that fun stage, which is great for us.  She's beginning to coo and babble quite a bit and we'll have "conversations" throughout the day.  She's such a strong little girl and is always wanting to stand up.  Her head control is getting much stronger each day and she's getting better at sitting up on her own without falling over.

By far, her most favorite thing she likes to do is walk around the house, face forward, and look at everything.  She loves it even more now that the house is decorated for Christmas with lots of lights for her to look at.  Here's the decorated tree that she loves looking at.  Yes, I know it's slightly crooked.  I blame Andy, haha.  But, look past the crookedness and tell me what a great job I did at decorating it!  Grandma Robbi must be rubbing off on me!

So, Ruby's 12 weeks old, which means my maternity leave is coming to an end sadly.  I officially go back to work on December 15th. :(  I'm just trying to soak up every second with Ruby this last week. Makes me so sad thinking about leaving her.  I wish we could afford for me to go part time, but that just isn't in the cards for us right now.  I'm just racked with guilt for having some stranger watch my daughter for almost 10 hours a day and only getting to spend a few hours with her at night.  I feel like she'll form a stronger bond with the daycare lady than with us. :( I know millions of moms do it, and I will adjust, but it just makes me really sad.

Making the transition back to work will be a little easier the first week, because Andy will stay home with her for one week, then she will start daycare on the 22nd.  I'm grateful for this, only because Andy really will get to see what it's like spending 24/7 with Ruby, and will hopefully form a stronger bond with her during this week.  On the other hand, I'm a little nervous for him!  But I'm sure he'll do great :)

I Jinxed Myself

So, remember how I said Ruby is sleeping through the night now?  Apparently that was just a fluke from last weekend, because she isn't doing that anymore.  Little turd.  Hopefully this changes before I go back to work next month!

On a side note, we had a great Thanksgiving!  Here's a few pics we took from yesterday.

Likes & Dislikes

So as Ruby is starting to develop a personality, I've discovered some of her likes and dislikes.  I associate a smile/being content with a liking of something and a cry with a disliking of something.  Let's start with what she likes:
  • She loves her mommy best :) I'm able to calm her down the fastest.
  • She loves the bouncy chair that vibrates.  Too bad we have to constantly bounce her in it, as it doesn't do this on its own.  When are they going to invent that someday?
  • When I sing silly songs to her
  • When I whistle to her
  • A new found love for the pacifier
  • When daddy changes her diaper and let's her "air out" for awhile on the changing table. Here's a Video of Ruby Dancing!
  • Walking around the house, face forward, checking out all her surroundings
  • Going for walks in the baby bjorn
  • Car rides/walks in the stroller (the constant movement/bumps put her to sleep)
And for the dislikes:
  • Bath time.  I've started getting in the tub with her and she seems to enjoy that part of it, but the second I take her out of the tub, she screams bloody murder!
  • The nasal aspirator...oh man, this is when I learned she has a set of lungs on her!  Yikes!
  • When I blow in her face.  She gasps for air like I'm drowning her when I do this, haha.  Mean mommy!
She will tolerate the swing, activity mat and tummy time for 5-10 minutes, then she's over it and gets fussy.  We're trying to introduce her to the Bumbo seat more, but I think she's still too little for it, since she can't hold up her head consistently yet.  Here's a pic I took when she wasn't feeling the Bumbo:

She's also starting to take the bottle easier lately, but still prefers the real deal ;)

And finally for the best news....she's sleeping through the night!  Pretty much...  Lately it's been anywhere from 6 to 8 hours at night.  Mommy likey!

Welcome!

Well, at the request of my darling husband, I have decided to start a blog to document some of the milestones and daily activities of our baby girl Ruby so our family and friends can watch her grow!

Our little girl is 2 months old already!  Amazing how the time flies!  We are truly blessed to have this adorable, healthy little girl in our lives.  She has enriched our lives so much and we can't imagine life without her!  Here's a couple pics from her 2 month photos I took.  Who do you think she looks like more...mommy or daddy?

Ruby had her 2 month doctor's appointment yesterday and she did great!  The doc said that she is progressing wonderfully as far as development, communication and motor skills.  Ruby is now 10.7 lbs and 21 inches long.  She's actually in the 75th percentile for weight, but only in the 25th percentile for height.  I guess she's gonna be a shorty like her momma!  I was somewhat paranoid that she was starting to develop a flat spot on the right side of her head, and the doc confirmed that she is somewhat, so we need to start turning her head to the left more when she's sleeping or in the bouncer/swing.  She also received her first set of immunizations at the appointment.  She was very brave and only cried for a minute.  I think it was harder on momma than on baby :(

One odd thing the doc noticed though was that she has the remnants of a 3rd nipple!  Yikes!  She said these normally go away though on their own over time.  Fingers crossed!  We don't want our little girl to have 3 boobies, haha!
